Man arrested on suspicion of murder after a passenger was stabbed to death on a bus in Handsworth

Detectives investigating the stabbing of a passenger on a bus in Handsworth have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

The man, aged 25, was arrested after surrendering himself to police officers this afternoon following the release of CCTV footage this morning (25/01).

He will be questioned in due course.

The man fatally stabbed on the number 11 bus on Monday (23/01) has been named as 36 year-old Leon Barrett-Hazle.

Meanwhile officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses on the bus to come forward.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “We still need these witnesses to come forward to help us establish what happened on the top deck of the 11A service on Monday evening in Rookery Road.

“The family of Leon are being kept informed of the latest development in our investigation and our thoughts remain with them.”
