A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a car park

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a car park in Tile Cross.

The man, aged 42, was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife following the discovery of a woman’s body in the Lidl car park on Mackadown Lane, at around 5AM this morning (30/01).

The area has been cordoned off while forensic experts examine the scene and the store will remain closed for the duration of the day. Early indications suggest the woman had been attacked with a bladed weapon.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Joyce, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “At around 4.45am our officers traced a vehicle to the car park and found a man and a woman inside.

“Tragically the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of her murder. While her identity is yet to be confirmed, at this stage we believe her to be the arrested man’s wife.”

The woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by trained officers; a post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the cause of the woman’s death.

As well as forensic examinations at the car park and the couple’s home, CCTV is being secured for review.

Officers will also be speaking to neighbours, while work is also underway to establish if the man and woman had any previous contact with West Midlands Police.

“I’d like to extend my deepest sympathies to the woman’s family and reassure them that we are doing absolutely everything we can to provide them with the answers they so desperately need,” added DCI Joyce.
