A man has sadly died in a severe house fire in Smethwick.

Emergency services were called to City Road, at around 5am this morning (10/02), to reports of a house fire.

Fire crews have now extinguished the blaze however; a man has sadly died.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Fire Services, said: “Severe house fire in Soho is out but several fire crews still at the scene.

Very sadly, a man has died in the fire. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family.”

Emergency services remain at the scene. City Road will remain closed between Portland Road and Ravenshaw Road until further notice.
