Investigation underway after a man was stabbed to death on a bus in Handsworth

Temporary Superintendent Tom Chisholm and his team from Force CID have launched an investigation after fatal stabbing on a bus in Handsworth.

Emergency services were called to Rookery Road, at around 10:43PM on Monday (23/01), to reports that a passenger had been attacked on a number 11 bus.

On arrival, a man, aged in his thirties, was found with stab injuries on the upper deck of the bus.

Emergency services carried out CPR at the scene, but unfortunately the man died a short time later from his injuries. He has not been formally identified at this stage.

Officers are carrying out urgent investigations to trace the offender, described as a black man, aged around 30 years and wearing a baseball cap and padded jacket He is believed to have left the bus in Rookery Road.

This morning Rookery Road, together with part of Oxhill Road and Greenhill Road, remains closed while forensic enquiries take place and is likely to remain closed for the rest of today.

Detectives continue to trawl CCTV and carry out local enquiries.

Police are asking for anyone who travelled on the No. 11A bus last night, heading towards the city centre and who may have seen what happened to call police on 101.

Temporary Superintendent Chisholm, said: “The investigation is in the early stages but it is believed the man was stabbed following an altercation between him and the offender on the upper deck of the outer circle No 11A bus as it travelled along Rookery Road in Handsworth. I am appealing for anyone who was travelling on the bus last night and who has information or anyone who saw the offender after leaving the bus tp call police.”
