A man has died after being stabbed at Benson Road tram stop in Winson Green.

Detectives from British Transport Police have launched an murder investigation after a man died from stab wounds at Benson Road tram stop in Winson Green.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at around 4:30PM this afternoon (31/03), to reports of a serious incident.

On arrival, they found a man, thought to be in his fifties, collapsed at the tram stop having suffered serious stab wounds. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

DCI Tony Fitzpatrick, from British Transport Police, is leading the investigation in conjunction with officers from West Midlands Police.

He said: “We’re still trying to establish exactly how the man came to receive his injuries. At the moment, it is unclear whether the man was stabbed on the platform approach or sustained his injuries elsewhere.

“The incident occurred around rush hour and I’m certain they would have been people around who can help us find out exactly what happened.

“If you saw anything suspicious around the area, which is near the junction with Talbot Street, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”
