I’m a Birmingham-based foodie on the quest for the perfect burger. I’m lucky enough to travel regularly, both across the country and overseas broadening my search globally to find burgers that leave my taste buds tingling.
Still, there’s no place like home and as the Birmingham burger scene is flourishing, I’m ecstatic I’m able to munch my way through it. Here are my top picks in the city centre area:
The Flying Cows
Now award winning mavericks, you can find The Flying Cows conjuring burger magic at Digbeth Dining Club or at a host of local events.
I recommend the ‘The High Flyer’; their trademark burger and winner of ‘Best Burger’ at the ‘British Street Food Awards’. Need I say more?
Original Patty Men
The Godfathers of the Birmingham dirty burger scene, OPM obtained their own restaurant in late 2015 and have been thriving ever since.
I recommend the ‘Bacon Cheese’ on the regular menu, but just about every special these guys do will leave you speechless. Look out for their doughnut burger in particular: ‘The Digbeth Steamer’.
In their trademark white van, Libertine Burger have been rustling up mouth watering burger goodness since 2016 and can be found at Digbeth Dining Club (there could be a pattern emerging here?).
What I love about Libertine is that their beef and chicken options are both equally alluring and tasty. Choose from dry aged beef or buttermilk fried chicken, add a bit of bacon and you’re away. Go for either ‘#004’ or ‘#008’ on their menu.
The Meat Shack
Dripping filthy goodness aptly describes what to expect from the Meat Shack which, conveniently enough, happens to be their slogan. Opening their own restaurant in 2017, these guys took Chinatown by storm.
Again, keep an eye out on the specials here as they are always divine. However, the ‘Dutch Piggy’ has everything you need and more to send you to burger heaven.
Byron are the big dogs of burger restaurants down in the capital. With continued growth across London due to their simple high quality food, it’s no wonder they have managed to expand out to Brum.
Both the beef and chicken options are great, but the ‘B-Rex’ is a cut above the rest, going from a special to a permanent menu item due to its immense popularity.
There are a plethora of fantastic restaurants serving up immense burgers across the city centre, Jewellery Quarter and surrounding areas. Find me on Instagram and Twitter @ThePattyMaster, read ramblings on my blog at www.pattymaster.com or head down to Digbeth Dining Club as chances are I’m there… likely eating a burger.
