Wanted man arrested after 5-hour rooftop standoff in Erdington

A wanted man has been arrested by West Midlands Police following a five-hour rooftop standoff during which officers were pelted with tiles.

Akim Nicholson, aged 27, was spotted by officers on Streetly Road, Erdington, at around 7pm on Friday night (24/02), driving a suspected stolen Audi.

The vehicle collided with a police patrol car before being abandoned in nearby Scafell Drive.

He then scaled bungalows in the cul-de-sac and began hurling roof tiles at officers on the ground.

Nicholson who was the subject of a wanted appeal issued last month by officers investigating a series of domestic related incidents and threats − surrendered to police just after midnight.

He has been arrested on suspicion of car theft, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, criminal damage to properties and assaulting police officers, in addition to the offences he was wanted over.

The road was cordoned off during the incident; no police officers were injured.
