Woman in a critical condition following a collision in Sparkbrook

-

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a collision in Sparkbrook on Thursday night (01/09).

The woman was travelling with a man and two children, a girl, aged 12, and a  boy, aged 4, who also suffered minor injuries, when their Toyota Corolla was hit by a silver Citroen C3 at the junction of Medlicott Road and Abbotsford Road.

Shortly before the collision at 9:30PM, the C3 had made off from police after they had instructed the vehicle to pull over. The driver ran from the scene, but was arrested nearby in a garage after a short footchase.

The man, aged 34, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is currently in custody on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The road was closed for several hours while we established the circumstances of the collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us on 101 if they have not already spoken to an officer.”

The matter will also be referred to the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission) as is normal procedure in this type of incident.

Please call WMP on 101 if you have ANY information.
