Thursday night (25/01) saw three of the world’s top darts players take on local dart enthusiasts at an exhibition event held at Resorts World Birmingham.
World Number One Michael van Gerwen was joined at the Genting International Casino at Resorts World by fellow Dutchman and former World Champion Raymond Van Barneveld and the Wizard from Australia, Simon Whitlock.
Through the evening each darts champion took on a number of local players who had won their opportunity to play by winning a competition online. Each player took part in a 501challenge but unfortunately the world’s top players proved to good opponents and won every leg. Players from Birmingham, Nuneaton and Coventry were among those who took part.
World number one Michael van Gerwen also took on members of the casino staff including General Manager Dave Scott in a special charity play off. Although once again, Michael’s skill provided too much for the challengers, it raised £2500.00 for Dementia UK.
Commenting on the evening Dave Scott, General Manager of the Genting International Casino said: “It was a thrill to have three of the world’s leading dart players with us at Resorts World. Many of our regular guests love sport of all kinds and so to bring some of the best in the world to the venue to see them play live is something that is proving very popular. Although all our competition winners struggled to beat Michael, Raymond or Simon, everyone had a wonderful time. It was also great that as a consequence of the evening we were able to donate £2500 to Dementia UK.”
