Park Street in Birmingham city centre closed as police investigate fatal collision

West Midlands Police are advising drivers to avoid the Moor Street area in Birmingham City Centre following a fatal collision.

Emergency services were called to Park Street near to Moor Street Car Park just after 11am this morning (16/12) following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. Sadly a man was confirmed dead and enquiries are now underway to identify his next of kin.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to discover the pedestrian, a man, in a critical condition.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the vehicle, a man, was assessed at the scene and taken to City Hospital.”

Drivers were asked to avoid the area as roads surrounding the collision were closed for several hours. A driver who stopped at the scene is assisting officers with enquiries.
