The plans which are supposedly being considered by ministers, would see that those over 40 would have to pay more tax or national insurance, or be asked to insure themselves against bills for care when they are older.

The money is said to go towards washing, day to day care, dressing, and other activities if still at home, or to cover their stay in a care home.

The Taskforce which is reviewing these plans is Boris Johnsons new Health and Social care TaskForce and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The Guardian reports that Health Secretary Matt Hancock is a big advocator and supporter for this plan – which follows a similar system to that in Japan and Germany.
