29 Birmingham Businesses Providing Free School Meals To Children

The Birmingham businesses working to end child food poverty

A proposal to provide free meals for disadvantaged children in England until Easter 2021 was rejected by MPs this week.

However, inspired by Marcus Rashford MBE, many businesses and local councils around the UK are stepping up to offer free meals to stop children going hungry during half term.

We’re pleased to see Birmingham City Council join the campaign, along with many amazing Birmingham businesses.

Below are the Birmingham businesses who are offering free school meals for children during half term. This list will be continually updated:

• Cleary’s Irish Bar –  128 Moseley Street, Digbeth, B12 ORY

Offering a free meal, drink and a piece of fruit for children in hardship this October half term. Harry’s Burger Hut will be serving hot meals for children from 12.00 pm -2.00 pm daily until Sunday 1st November. You can telephone in, text Patrick on 07816 224485 to secure your meal or just stop by. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

• The Boogie Shed – Ludgate Hill, B3 1DW

Providing a lunch tray, Monday – Friday, 12 pm – 2 pm for sit in or takeaway

• Bom Cafe – Dudley Street, B5 4EG

28th – 31st this half-term from 11 am to 4 pm, BOM Cafe is offering hot or cold lunches to families with children. Contact Number: 0121 517 0421

• Halal Candy Corner – 367 Ladypool Rd, B12 8JY

From Monday, you can drop them a message via Instagram DM and they will have a pack of essentials ready for you to collect

• Sorrento Lounge – 91a Alcester Road, Moseley, B13 8DD

Providing free school meals to those in need. Please provide proof of eligibility for staff. Available Tuesday 27th Oct to 31st, 12 – 2 pm. Free meal will be a choice of; 3 nuggets and chips/1 sausage and chips/2 cod bites and chips. Contact Number: 0121 444 7486

• Arco Lounge– 147 High Street, Harbourne, B17 9NP

From 27th October for the duration of half term, they are offering a packed lunch. This includes either a sandwich (ham or cheese) or a warming soup, kids drink, some fruit and some crisps. Monday 26th – Friday 30th October, 12-2:30 PM, providing for kids who are on the FSM Scheme a free lunch. • Digbeth Dining Club – 

They have joined up with the Northfield Food Service for half term to provide meals across the week.

From Monday they are offering free packed lunches for children in the Weoley Castle area! Drop-in at Weoley Castle Community Centre between 10 am and 2 pm from Monday, call them or message us through social media! Contact Number: 0121 427 6404

Providing a kids meal Monday – Thursday, 12 pm – 2 pm, Under 11s only. Meals are; sausage & chips/chicken nuggets & chips/fish fingers & Chips/small cheesy chips. You will just need to pop in and tell them which you want. Contact Number: 0121 360 2938

From Monday 26th to Friday 30th, Changes Coffee will be providing a free packed lunch, available to collect for any children in our community. Telephone 0121 448 3770 before 9 am for same-day collection or email amysmith@changesuk.org. This will be a completely confidential service, if you need a packed lunch or know someone who might be, please get in touch. From Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st, 12-2 pm. They are offering a free meal per child (4-16yrs) of either sausage & chips or cod bite & chips. All you need do is inbox them with your name and order. Contact Number: 0121 7077866

Kutum Bari is supporting the community, send them a private message. Kutum Bari will do everything possible to fulfil the children’s necessity of food. “It may simply be a case of dropping off a food parcel and leaving. No one has to know. Let’s do this together”. Kairos will be offering a free child’s meal to any child in receipt of free school meals over half term, Saturday 24th – Saturday 31st. Just let them know when they come over to your table. Contact Number: 0121 745 4419

Offering free play sessions and a kids meal to anyone who is in need this half term Monday – Friday from 5.30 pm. You must message them if you would like to book a play session or if you are anxious about allowing your children to play then you can pop by to collect a sandwich grab bag to take away.
