Leading children’s charity Action for Children will throw open the doors of its innovative pop-up shop to the Midlands, on Friday 11th October 2019 for an initial six week run.
The charity is marking its 150th year of helping vulnerable children. With the name taken from the year the charity was founded, 1869 is not your average charity shop. Rather than second-hand clothes it will be stocking brand new and sample items from high end retailers, along with a wide variety of children’s clothing.
The 1869 concept has proved so popular that Birmingham will be its third location, following successful stints in Watford and Norwich.
It has so far brought in total of £92,000 and Action for Children is hoping people in the Midlands will raise an additional £20,000 to help them support some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people.
The shop will be staffed by volunteers, offering retail experience to students, and anyone looking for a way to meet new people and get involved with their community.
Charrice Richmond, Retail Project Manager at Action for Children says:
‘We want every child in the country to have a safe and happy childhood and we’re so excited to be bringing the 1869 experience to the Midlands.
“Every single purchase will go towards helping vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK, often in desperate situations – treating yourself to a new pair of shoes or party dress really could make the world of difference.’
Ian Bennett, Operations Director of Resorts World Birmingham, said:
‘We are really excited to welcome the 1869 Action for Children pop-up, it’s a great addition to our retail mix that we think our guests will love. Action for Children do fantastic work and this is a brilliantly innovative idea that we’re delighted to support.’
Local services run by Action for Children include several Children’s Centres at Cape Hill, Hillside, Greets Green, Friar Park and Oldbury; as well as the Midlands Adoption service; and Sandwell Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)
