BBC Birmingham is launching a free event to inspire more young people to pursue careers in the industry. The first event of its kind will take place at The Glee Club on Tuesday 5th March.
A host of inspirational industry females from creative and digital sectors across the BBC and wider media outlets will be there giving talks, hosting workshops and presenting masterclasses. The finest reporters, broadcasters, writers, and programme-makers the UK has to offer will be dishing out their advice.
As part of the day, public audiences will be able to attend an exclusive screening of new BBC Three series: GLOW UP; Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, where budding new make-up artists battle it out to be the next big make-up star.
Audiences will be able to hear from women in roles from a range of media outlets and backgrounds, including Controller of BBC Three Fiona Campbell, Journalist and Author Polly Vernon, BBC Solicitor Apprentice Marjana Uddin, Creative Director of Full Fat TV Colette Foster, Executive Producer of7Wonder Sarah Trigg, BBC Senior News Editor Eileen Murphy, and Director Darcia Martin to name just a few.
Workshops throughout the day include a session with the BBC Academy on preparing for a media career; BBC Three’s top tips on using social media; a Podcast creation workshop and a session on Virtual Reality and women in the world of tech lead by Birmingham City University’s School of Media.
Helen Thomas, Director of BBC England said: “The Midlands and the North of England have so much to offer in terms of media careers. Both regions are major players in drama, news, tech and digital, and we want to showcase the very best women in the industry to inspire a new generation of female talent.
“Fierce Women in Media is providing young people with exclusive access to the women running the media world, so we hope they will get stuck in, ask questions and put them through their paces for what promises to be a fantastic series of events in Birmingham and Leeds.”
