Launched in 2018, the BRUM (Birmingham – Report – Update – Manage) account is an online service for residents and organisations in Birmingham that allows members to request and track a range of council services, providing an improved customer experience.
With 190,000 BRUM accounts already registered and an average of 8,000 new registrations every month, the digital platform provides 24/7 access to council services including Council Tax. With BRUM, you’re in control – create a personalised dashboard and get immediate access to a whole range of services including for council tax: viewing your account, notifying the council of a change in circumstances or change in address, paperless billing, setting up or amending Direct Debits, changes in Tenancy i.e. if a tenant moves out or foreign language assistance.
BRUM can also help with useful information and application of potential discounts or exemptions on your Council Tax bill, including:
- Single person discounts. If you’re the only adult (aged 18 or over) living in your home, you can claim a single person Council Tax discount of 25%. This discount is awarded on your main home and not on second homes.
- Student council tax discount or exemption. You could be exempt from paying Council Tax if you are a full-time student living in a property on your own or a full-time student living in a property solely with other full-time students.
- Full-time students attending college or university.
- Residents suffering with dementia or who are severely mentally impaired. Households containing people suffering from severe mental impairment, including (but not limited to) those with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, those who have suffered a stroke, those with severe learning difficulties and those who have suffered such impairment as a result of injury, may be entitled to a reduction in their council tax.
Creating a BRUM account is easy – simply register and have immediate access to view up to date account information, check balance and payments and update contact details.
