Birmingham filmmaker, AR Ugas, talks about his new short film based in Brum

-

We caught up with AR Ugas, a Birmingham Creator to talk about his brand new short film, MARTYR.

I’m AR Ugas, a Birmingham filmmaker for 2 years, I have made several short films and was part of the Back In program for 2019-2020. Back In is a film development program aimed at emerging filmmakers in the region from a BAME background. Martyr is the first film I’ve made after completing this program.

It’s about a gundealer who suspects his latest client is preparing a terrorist attack.

It’s part of a series of exciting high concept short films that I’m planning to create in the Midlands.

I feel as we’re the second city in the UK our creative output should be a lot higher than it is. We have great locations, actors, writers and creatives so there is no reason for us to be that much behind London.

The film was written, directed and shot by me and the cast consists of Dominic Thompson, Jay Sandhar, Tev Anderson and Joshmaine Joseph.

My aim for these short films is to represent the talents that are hidden in this city as well as use it as preparation for a feature film that I want to produce.
