On Saturday 26th January, Touchwood will go all out to celebrate the Chinese New Year, with a series of colourful celebrations including: Oriental inspired treats, dazzling parades and plenty of surprises. The centre will be transformed into a Far Eastern wonderland for what will be an unforgettable experience.

Festivities begin with a thrilling Chinese dragon dance, bringing an authentic touch. The traditional dance is performed at Chinese festivals across the globe. Truly, a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.  Underneath the enormous dragon exterior, a talented team of dancers will weave their way through Touchwood, spreading good luck and prosperity.

Next, experience a taste sensation, as delicious fortune cookies will be handed out to passers-by. Once cracked open, lucky individuals can find out what is in store for the Luna year ahead.

As if that were not enough, Touchwood will be host to two Wishing Trees. The awe-inspiring installations evoke the Chinese tradition, whereby red ribbons are tied onto special trees as a way of sending one’s own gratitude and dreams off to the universe, in the hope that these wishes come true.

Both trees will take root in Poplar Arcade until mid-February. Guests are encouraged to write down their dreams, wishes and desires and attach them to the branches. One lucky person’s wish – whether it be a day out or the latest toy – will be granted*! Make sure you don’t miss this magical day out for the whole family.
