Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s ‘Treecycling’ campaign is back and will see hundreds of big-hearted volunteers collect real trees from people’s doorsteps, in return for a donation to the charity.
Taking place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January, the initiative will see the trees recycled into vital compost and biomass fuel – a much more eco-friendly solution then sending trees to landfill.
This year, the charity is expecting to collect over 3,500 trees from a range of postcodes, which will hopefully raise an impressive £70,000 for the Hospice.
Charlotte Dowling, community and corporate fundraising manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “When all the festivities are over, getting rid of your Christmas tree can feel like a big chore. Thankfully, our Treecycling volunteers are on hand to collect your used trees from your doorstep – saving you time, effort and hassle. It’s much greener than just binning your tree or sending it down the tip, so it’s a great way to kick-start the New Year knowing that you’ve done some good.”
Treecycling is a business-supported initiative, with local firms getting behind the campaign by donating vans, people and resources. This means that every pound donated to the campaign will go directly to the Hospice, which provides care and support to local people living with a life-limiting illness.
Charlotte added: “At Birmingham St Mary’s, we help to improve a person’s quality of life by supporting them to be pain-free, comfortable and to live well with illness. All of our services are free of charge, so we really do rely on the generosity of local people to enable us to continue to provide crucial care to people who need it most.”
Treecycling is part of the Hospice’s ‘Care at Christmas’ campaign, which is a festive appeal that aims to boost support for the charity leading up to and over the Christmas period. This year, ‘Care at Christmas’ will be extra special as it will help raise much-needed funds during the charity’s 40th anniversary year.
The postcodes that Treecycling will be collecting from, are B13, B14, B15, B17, B25, B26, B27, B28, B29, B30, B31, B32, B38, B45, B47, B62, B67, B68, B90, B91, B92, B93 & B94. Bookings will close on Monday 6 January.
