Esabella’s Restaurant in Solihull closes voluntarily following Covid-19 Outbreak

-

Patrons who visited between Friday 28 August and Sunday 6 September urged to get tested using local testing team

Esabella’s Restaurant, located on Warwick Road, Solihull, has closed voluntarily for seven days from Wednesday 9 September after 25 people, including one member of staff, tested positive for Covid-19.

The company is working closely with Solihull Council and Public Health England (PHE) West Midlands to manage the outbreak and prevent any further spread of the virus. Additional testing of all members of staff is taking place, and the establishment is currently being deep cleaned.

Given the number of cases, customers who have visited Esabella’s Restaurant between Friday 28 August and Sunday 6 September are urged to also get tested as soon as possible, whether they are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or not. They can do this through the local community testing team rather than going through the national system, by ringing 073 8534 9686. Checks will be made to ensure patrons visited the establishment during those dates.

Angela Cartwright, Consultant in Communicable Disease Control with Public Health England (PHE) Midlands said: “It is very important that any members of the public who visited the establishment between Friday 28 August and Sunday 6 of September get in touch with the community testing team and book a test as soon as possible, even if they do not have any symptoms. Testing will be vital in halting the spread of transmission.”

Solihull’s Director of Public Health, Ruth Tennant said: “The management have acted responsibly in this case following appropriate guidance and taking immediate action to prevent further transition. It’s encouraging to see the business doing the right thing and taking the proactive steps required of them to minimise the risk to customers and staff. We are pleased to see Esabella’s taking this action voluntarily.

“We will continue working with all of our local business to provide advice, support and practical assistance where necessary.

“This isolated outbreak in our town centre is a reminder that Covid-19 hasn’t gone away and we all need to continue to play our part in controlling the virus.”

A spokesperson for Esabella’s Restaurant said: “The safety and wellbeing of all our customers and staff is what’s most important and we have followed many measures to prevent the transmission of the virus, including reducing our seating capacity, enhancing cleaning regimes of areas that are touched frequently, and providing each member of our staff with masks and individual bottles of hand sanitiser.

“We are now stepping up these measures by deep cleaning the site, and closing our doors until this has taken place.”

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of a new continuous cough or a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia).

If you develop these symptoms, however mild, or you have received a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result, then you should immediately self-isolate stay at home for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started.
