For the fourth time, B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival is back at Southside with a popping line-up celebrating all things Hip-Hop this month. Once again, Birmingham Hippodrome’s free* family-friendly festival stands to champion a whole host of talents, suiting a variety of tastes. Whether it’s dance, music, spoken word, art or film you are into, there is something for you… and then some!
From 3rd – 12th May various events will take place showcasing the city’s finest Hip-Hop acts and world-class names. An immersive experience awaits for those of you that want to get involved and learn more. Competitions, workshops, rap battles and live music are all to be enjoyed across the 10-day fest, taking place predominately in and around Southside – Birmingham Hippodrome, Bullring & Grand Central, the Chinese Quarter and The Arcadian.
The Arcadian complex has supported B-SIDE since its beginnings and continues to throughout the 2019 festival; hosting a collection of fascinating performances across the last weekend of the event.

Visionbombing Game Show

This hilarious game show will see two teams, made up of Hip-Hop artists compete individually and as a unit for all-important points. Think Mock the Week, combined with Krypton Factor, mixed with Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and you’re almost there! Presented by DJ Psykhomantus & TY Chijioke
Flowmotion – Freestyle Rap Cipher

Flowmotion arrives in the centre, fresh from Balsall Heath for its first cipher in town. The Manifesto? To create a culture of freestyle, finesse lyrical excellence and celebrate all styles, all while having fun! Anyone can take part!

Jams will feature men’s, women’s and youth 3v3s, including a wheelchair demo with the City of Birmingham Rockets. A slam dunk contest and open court participation will also take place.

One not to be missed! Across the afternoon into the evening, you’ll get to see phenomenal break-dance battles to the backdrop of live MCs and DJs.

BMX Demos

Witness some of the most talented BMX trick riders demonstrate their skills throughout the day. Welcome Brock Horneman (Australia), Tomass Grinbergs (Latvia) and Kalvis Lazdins (Latvia) to Birmingham and cheer the guys on!

Art Talks: TIE, staHHr and Lady Sanity
