With the worldwide Black Lives Matter Movement, there are many videos circulating across the globe that are allowing us to see a situation as it is rather than being told how it went.
it is clear that racism has always been around but now it’s being filmed for us all to see.
Back in 2018, Robert Petersen launched a shortcut called “i’m getting pulled over”. Since the death of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and many more; the shortcut has gained new attention following protests and The BLM Movement.
Once you load this (free) shortcut onto your iPhone, all you need to do is say “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over” and it will kickstart a chain of events. It will dim your phone, pause any music being played, and start recording video from your front-facing camera. It can also send your current location and a copy of that video to an emergency contact, though you’ll need to confirm a few pop-up messages to complete these steps.
Creator Robert Petersen wrote in a tweet “This just…records things. That’s perfectly Constitutional to record police, and if they are doing their jobs as they should be there’s no problem for them,” – “I’ll add that I’ve talked to some officers and none of them have had any issue with it at all.”
Well said. There is no problem with recording these situations for ease of mind.
How do i get the shortcut?
- First things first, make sure your iOS is updated to at least iOS 12.
- Then, download the Shortcuts app which you can find on the App store here.
- After that’s done, visit this link on your mobile device from the built-in Safari browser to set-up the shortcut. (Be careful: other browsers won’t work!)
- You’ll also need to make sure your phone can load unverified shortcuts (go to Settings > Shortcuts and toggle Allow Untrusted Shortcuts to allow this) and give the program access to your location, which you can see how to do here.
- Then you should be good to go! (Make sure you test the shortcut first as you’ll need to ok certain permissions for it to work correctly.)
