Love Island, two words which bring so much excitement to most of us who are anticipating its 2018 return, is set to start on Monday 4th June at 9pm. *Childish scream*
Last year we saw it all, tears, polar bears, too much make-up, muscles, lip fillers, hair extensions, named water bottles, more tears and… oh yeah, more tears. This year we are hoping for it all again, and EVEN MORE.
Unsurprisingly, with the hype surrounding Love Island, we saw some of the reality stars’ fame levels sky-rocket, with Chris and Kem being the main faces. As a result, the two, along with many of the other stars, earned an unthinkable amount of money after the show, on account of advertisements and Instagram posts.
Starring on a reality TV show like Love Island often results in contestants landing deals with fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands which pay a LOT. Last year Amber bagged herself a £500K deal with Motel Rocks shortly after the series.
It seems that the producers of Love Island are not happy about this and are now considering taking a cut of future contestant’s profits. No final decision has been made, but a contract clause taking a percentage of the contestants’ earnings after the show is on the cards and this would follow in the footsteps of other reality shows including The Only Way Is Essex.
A TV source said: “ITV producers are looking into adding a clause to contracts for the next batch of singletons to claim a stake in their earnings.
“Love Island has helped to launch the careers of many of its stars including Kady McDermott and Olivia Buckland and from last year’s series Kem and Chris Hughes.
“Shows such as I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Towie have been known to use similar clauses to ask for a percentage of their contestants’ earnings – and due to the success of Love Island it makes sense for them to follow suit.
“Bosses are yet to make a final decision and at the moment contracts are yet to be finalised.”
