Major investigation underway after a man was shot dead in Hockley.

A major police investigation is underway involving officers and specialist teams following the fatal shooting of a man on Wednesday night (13/09).

The man, aged 34, was shot on Great Hampton Row in the Hockley area of the city, at around 9.30pm, police were initially alerted by the ambulance service who had raced to treat the man.

Local officers, supported by police firearms units, quickly joined them and locked down the area.

The man – who has been identified but is not being named at this stage – was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Detective Inspector Harry Harrison, from force CID, said: “This is a shocking and cold blooded killing which has cost a man his life, we are working non-stop to find those responsible.
“A stretch of the road remains cordoned off as we search for clues in this fast-paced investigation.”

CCTV cameras in the area have been identified and officers are actively securing hours of footage for urgent review.

Forensic experts continue to work at the scene and specialist teams will be conducting fingertip searches of the area.

Witnesses have also been identified and are helping with the investigation.

DI Harrison continued: “If there’s anyone who was in the area at the time and who hasn’t yet spoken to us, they need to get in touch now. Your call could make a huge difference.”
