Man taken to hospital following an incident involving armed police in Frankley.

Police have cordoned off an area on Hereford Close in Frankley following an incident involving armed police last night (26/07).

At around 9PM, a firearm was discharged by an armed officer which resulted in one man being taken to hospital with a gunshot injury. Another man has been arrested for suspected firearm offences.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police, said: “The officer’s body worn video was on at the time of the incident.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).”

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson said: “An incident like this is extremely rare in the West Midlands and, as such, I will be monitoring the situation closely. This is the first time West Midlands Police has shot someone since 2000. I scrutinise police use of force closely and I will continue to do so. Police use of firearms is closely monitored and regulated.”
