West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a man tragically lost his life in a collision earlier this morning (23 January) in Quinton.
We were called to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian at the junction of Ridgeway Avenue and Hagley Road West, at around 6.15am.
Sadly, the man aged 45, died at the scene.
The van driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We’ve launched an investigation into the circumstances of this collision.
“I’d ask anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to us, to contact me or my team as soon as possible.
“A man has sadly lost his life, his family have been informed and our specialist officers will provide support to them.
“If you saw anything or have dashcam footage please contact us.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to discover a man, who was the pedestrian, with multiple serious injuries following the collision.
“Ambulance staff performed specialist trauma care and administered advanced life support at the scene.
“However, despite their best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The van driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”
