West Midlands Police Detectives investigating violence at Star City have launched an appeal for members of the public who saw what happened to come forward.

Seven officers were left with minor injuries as trouble flared at the Vue cinema and spilt out into the complex on Saturday night (23/11).

Six people, aged between 13 and 19, have been arrested and released on bail, while a 15-year-old boy was voluntarily interviewed by officers on suspicion of violent disorder yesterday (28/11).

Further voluntary interviews are planned with two other 15-year-old boys and hours of CCTV from sites around Star City has already been downloaded.

Det Sgt John Mawhinney, leading the investigation, said: “We’ve already gathered a large amount of pictures and video from social media and CCTV, but we are now really interested in hearing from members of the public who were there and saw what happened.

“We know many families were enjoying nights out when they saw the trouble unfold and it’s vital that we get to hear from them.

“Even if they can’t identify anyone who was involved in the trouble, it’s important that we build a picture of exactly what happened and exactly what people experienced.

2We are still working to establish exactly what caused the disorder and this investigation is likely to take some considerable time.”
