You must throw caution to the wind every now and again and treat yourself to something sweet when you most deserve it. Birmingham has you covered for a tee-total meet with friends as a range of dessert-focused spaces are opening through the city. Those with a penchant for puddings will be pleased to  know that desserts are becoming popular in the own right and aren’t just an adequate ending to a meal but the star of the show themselves!

Here are a range of places and specials those with a sweet-tooth need to head for the best:

Caffe Chino

This kitsch café based on Hurst Street specialises in all things sweet and sugar laden. They even serve candyfloss with some of their Bubble Teas! Our favourite dessert of theirs is definitely the Carnival Waffle which is stuffed with vanilla gelato, caramel popcorn, marshmallow, candy floss, whipped cream and caramel sauce. Wide ranges of buns, cakes, patisseries and gelatos fill the shelves here and their range of drinks are a treat for all taste-buds whether its creamy or fruity, your preference. Their Honey Peach Slush Ice rapidly refreshes after a pudding binge too!

Chitty’s Cakes

Based in the Custard Factory, this aptly placed cake shop is a little haven outside the hectic city centre surroundings. Fresh cakes are on offer to all guests who can choose from a range of flavourings and styles. No matter what you like, you are going to find a sublime slice of the nation’s favourite comfort food here! Chitty’s are also fabulous at adapting to seasons and special holidays providing a fab range of cakes to suit all occasions.

Dessert Lab

A great spot for an after work catch-up. The desserts here are wonderful and the staff are chatty and assertive. The Dessert Lab offer a range of sugary servings, including: waffles, sundaes, crepes and cookie dough. The latter being a particular go-to. The Red Velvet offering complete with raspberry sauce and white chocolate with your choice of a large range of ice cream is something to shout about.

San Carlo Gran Café

If you like the finer things in a life, San Carlo group’s Gran Café inside Selfridges is calling out to you. Since its opening last year, their wide variety of decadent desserts have become a firm favourite for food fans across the city. Gargantuan freak-shakes, creamy gelatos and fresh fruit tarts are tenderly made for customers daily, without complaint.

Ice Stone Gelato

The only down-side to this place is choosing just one thing from their exciting menu. You’ll be feeling like a kid in a candy shop trying to decide what to go for! We love the sound of their Bubblegum Freak-shake – bubblegum thick-shake, topped with bubblegum sauce, Millions, sprinkles and a chunk of bubblegum gateaux slice to finish. They also have a section of the menu dedicated to ‘Back to School Puddings’ featuring: Apple Crumble, Jam Roly Poly and Chocolate Concrete. Amazing!
