A true team effort is helping to keep vulnerable people in Castle Vale and Stockland Green stocked up on essential food and supplies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Social housing provider The Wrekin Housing Group have offered up a fleet of vans and drivers to deliver food parcels throughout the two areas for residents who are having to self-isolate, and to those who cannot get access to much-needed supplies or local food banks during lockdown measures.
The scheme, launched this week, is coordinated by The Pioneer Group, who identify those in need of support. Then, The Active Wellbeing Society sources the food and supplies, and The Wrekin Housing Group (The Pioneer Group’s newly appointed repairs partner) transport the parcels.
Each parcel contains a nutritious balance of both dry and fresh food including fruit, vegetables, tinned goods, cereal and milk. They have delivered over 240 food parcels to vulnerable households and care homes, amounting to over two tonnes of food.
The Wrekin team have also been providing a drop-off service for vital medical collections for those in need of help. Residents have praised the willingness of the drivers to go ‘the extra mile’ and make sure that they have a swift, friendly service.
Wrekin’s Maintenance Supervisor, Serge Ellis, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has pulled together to provide crucial support for those who need it most.
“I’m really proud of how the team have come together to support the community. Our partnership with The Pioneer Group is only a matter of days old when the pandemic began and so we’ve had to rapidly adjust our ways of working.”
