Detectives from West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit have today (23/10) charged a Birmingham teenager with terrorism offences.
The boy, aged 15, who cannot be named, has been charged with one count of preparing for terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 after attempting to travel. He will appear before Birmingham Youth Court on Monday 27th November.
Detectives detained the teenager at Birmingham Airport on 12th June 2017 after he was reported missing by his family. The arrest was intelligence-led and there was no immediate threat to the public.
