A teenager has been detained on suspicion of lashing out with a machete at a stranger in Dale End in the city centre.
The 17-year-old − who has been living in the Smethwick area − was detained in Manchester on Sunday (24/06).
West Midlands Police investigators have been liaising with counterparts in Greater Manchester Police and the teen has been detained in hospital where he will undergo a mental health assessment.
Police continue to investigate the attack in Dale End’s Priory Square on 8th June and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Greg Evans, said: “This was a shocking incident in which a male was caught on CCTV producing a machete from his waistband and seemingly striking a man at random. Thankfully, the 29-year-old victim suffered a superficial injury and did not require hospital treatment.
“A teenager has now been detained on suspicion of involvement; he is to have an assessment and we await the results of that assessment to determine how best to progress the matter.”
