Tap all day. Never overpay with contactless capping on National Express West Midlands buses.
National Express West Midlands are making travelling by bus cheaper and easier with their new ‘Tap and cap’ contactless payments.
Simply tap the same contactless bank card (or banking app on your phone) on the bus ticket machine each time you get on. At the end of seven days, you will be charged no more than the £15 cost of a weekly ticket – however many journeys you’ve made. So savings kick in after travelling for just four days in that one week.
National Express West Midlands Managing Director, David Bradford, said:
“You will be able to catch as many buses as you like all day long and just tap a contactless card on the ticket machine. You don’t need to work out what’s the best price – we’ll do that automatically and you’ll never pay more than you need to.
“This makes it easier for people to try out catching the bus – and we know that when people try buses, they like them and keep using them.
“Getting more people onto buses will build back our high streets, get people back into jobs and education, clean up our air and help the UK meet its carbon targets.”
Here’s how it works
- You can make as many bus journeys as you like and when all your fares add up to a certain amount, you won’t be charged any more.
- Fares are automatically capped at £4 for one day, £11.50 for three days or £15 for seven days.
- National Express works out when you’ve reached a cap because they log every journey you make (as long as you always tap the same contactless card or device on the reader as you board the bus!)
- 3-day and 7-day capping is calculated for journeys made between the set time period of Monday to Sunday.
