The city sees a huge gathering annually for the Chinese New Year and 2018 won’t be any different. In fact, we are promised bigger and better. Although the New Year’s date is 16th February, celebrations, as custom, will be held in Birmingham centre this Sunday. (18/02).

The city’s Chinese Quarter will bring in hordes of people who will enjoy a host of free entertainment and welcome the Year of the Dog. From 11.30am 4.30pm an expected 15,000+ guests will be invited to try some of the region’s most beautiful Chinese cuisine, with dim sum and noodles expected to be stars of the show. Lantern making, fire acts, acrobatics, and a fun-fair are also expected to be a hit with attendees. Face paints and crafts are also a great way to introduce children to Chinese culture on what will be a fun, yet widely educational day out.

Live music and dance acts will take you from beginning to end. This party has always been a huge date on the Birmingham calendar and as this year will bring an extra stage with various acts, we are sure it will only get better.

The Hippodrome are co-producing the festivities along with the city’s Chinese Festival Committee so be sure to join them in a bunch of creative activities, including: drum making, spiral dragon masking making and calligraphy workshops.

For those of you who happen to be out and about in town on Sunday it is definitely worth a stroll across Southside to see the celebrations for yourself.
