5 Things to see and do at Winterbourne House and Gardens

As Spring approaches, find a unique gift, your next learning course or something for the whole family as you explore Winterbourne House and Gardens.

‘They Called it Winterbourne’: Linocuts by Sarah Moss.

As the artist in residence at Winterbourne, Sarah decided to create a series of linocut prints inspired directly by Winterbourne’s history and architectural style. Following detailed research in the Winterbourne archive, Sarah selected quotes from diaries and letters which shone a spotlight on significant moments in the lives of John and Margaret Nettlefold. For the overall design of the prints, Sarah took the frontispiece of William Morris’s book ‘News from Nowhere,’ as her templates, which depicted his own house.

The ‘They Called it Winterbourne’ Linocuts can be seen in the exhibition room on the first floor until Tuesday 31st March from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm. To find out more, visit here: www.winterbourne.org.uk/whats-on/they-called-it-winterbourne-linocuts-by-sarah-moss

Sketching at Winterbourne with Wayne Attwood

Join RBSA artist Wayne Attwood to develop techniques and approaches for producing drawings from direct observation in the grounds of Winterbourne House and Garden.  Suitable for all abilities. Depending on weather conditions, sketching will take place inside the house and in the garden.  Participants should bring their own sketching materials, which should be easily portable as there will be movement around locations.  These should include something to draw on, such as a sketchbook and a standard ball-point pen. If participants feel uncomfortable drawing standing up, sitting on the floor or need to sit down for health reasons, it is recommended that they consider bringing a portable, fold-up camping chair/stool.

The workshop takes place on Saturday 4th April from 10.45am – 4.30pm. Tickets are priced at £45 and can be purchased in the Winterbourne shop or via the website here www.winterbourne.org.uk/whats-on/sketching-at-winterbourne
