Shika Khimji, aged 46, from Balsall Heath, has been charged with making malicious and racially aggravated calls following a number of calls made to the police 999 system.
Over 20 calls of a malicious and racist nature were made to operators over the last two months.
Following investigations, Officers yesterday (26/07) charged a Khimji with six counts of malicious communications to the 999 system, plus a racially aggravated public order offence and criminal damage to a police vehicle.
He was remanded in custody to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court later today (27/07).
Temporary Detective Sergeant Tom Lyons from the West Midlands Police prisoner handling unit, said: “Misuse of the 999 or the police 101 non-emergency number − deflects resources away from people in genuine need of assistance or those who are reporting serious crimes.
“For instance, West Midlands Police receives more than 1,500 calls a day to the 999 number and our operatives have to deal with each one accordingly. Anyone found repeatedly abusing this system risks arrest and being put before the courts.”
