The University of Birmingham has announced that it is building a new hotel and conferencing facility on their main campus in Edgbaston, in order to enhance the experience of those visiting and staying on campus.
The 172-bed hotel and conference facility will be built near to the University’s existing conference facilities off Edgbaston Park Road; creating provision for 220 beds overall.
The plans also include the regeneration of Garth House, a Grade II* listed building, and Hornton Grange as part of the work to preserve them for future generations.
Garth House, an Arts and Crafts house, was built in 1900, and Hornton Grange in 1928. Both buildings form part of the University’s existing conference facilities.
The new project will offer increased flexibility for conferences and other events, including weddings, with rooms able to be configured to hold anywhere between 20 and 200 delegates.
The new Park will also be better linked to the rest of the campus, to allow seamless access and use of a wide range of facilities; such as the Great Hall, the Bramall, The Barber Institute of Fine Arts and the University’s state-of-the-art sports club.
The facility will open in autumn this year.
