Birmingham’s first Jerk Festival is on Saturday 10th August – a perfect chance to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day (falling on 6th August this year)! Experience a Caribbean smoke and fire festival with the absolute best Jerk Chicken in the city, hosted by Taste & Liquor at the Quantum Events Centre.

As summer warms our delightful British city, imagine yourself in sunny Jamaica enjoying relaxed vibes and spicy jerk as the seasoning of the day! The Jerk Festival offers all your traditional, tasty favourites including rice and peas, more-ish fried plantain, vanilla-infused dumplings, and, of course, plates and plates of spicy, crispy barbecued jerk chicken and pork. The event will have lots of street food vendors, each offering their own take on Jerk to delight your taste buds.

Jerk Chicken is a staple in Caribbean cuisine. It’s thought to originate in Jamaica where the indigenous Tanio people would cook meat over fires made from the aromatic wood of the allspice tree. This history of treating meat with love and affection continues in Jerk cuisine to this day. Grilling with respect and delicately coating the meat with a seasoning combining hot peppers, sweet allspice berries, thyme, and ginger to create a sweet, spicy, and savoury plate of goodness!

Alongside the fantastic food, there will be Rum cocktails from Tropical Much, a rum bar serving a great selection of Jamaican beer, spirits and specialty drinks including Guinness Punch. As well as some great music from The Shabba Soundsystem who are known for their laidback, party vibes. There will also be DJs from Brunchin & Hip Hop and R&B Brunch – so you know there’s going to be some dancing!

If you’re not much of a dancer, don’t fear! Come along for the atmosphere and the amazing 80s retro games arcade, sure to delight anyone from kids to adults.

Come on down and have a small slice of island life right here in Digbeth! Tickets are £7 on the door, including a shot of rum on entry. The festival is open to all the family with kids under four entering for free. The day runs from 12-8pm.

From the creators of Birmingham Wing Fest, Jerk Festival is sure to be a brilliant day full of delicious food, pumping music, and chilled-out vibes.
