Birmingham alone has more waterways than Venice – combine that with the canals through the Black Country, more than a hundred miles of them, and you have a fascinating and extensive network that costs a lot of time, effort and money to maintain.
As staff at the Canal and River Trust prepared one of their biggest jobs of the summer, BBC Midlands Today’s Rebecca Wood was given a bird’s eye view.
