You may already know that each year The Queen recognises the extraordinary achievements of people from all walks of life, and all ages. Two Honours Lists are published every year – the New Year’s Honours in January and The Queen’s Birthday Honours in June.
And you’ll certainly know that are many unsung heroes, within our very own community, who deserve to be honoured but they need someone to nominate them.
So, do you know someone like Sonia Parnell BEM, for example, who has been honoured for all her good work and efforts to help others?
Sonia Parnell BEM has dedicated her life to the care and support of others, including, many vulnerable adults living in the city.
In addition to running her own care home – Liberty House, she also delivers courses that help to support young people in building their self-esteem and inspiring them to aim higher. She currently employs nine people to support with work experience placements.
Her latest contribution to the city is “Community Flow”. This is a programme that uses her care home as a base for a festival, garden project and courses that give people the opportunity to provide for their community.
Sonia’s efforts in the community are nothing short of fantastic, but there are other people like her who should be recognised for what they do.
If you know someone, please nominate them.
There are more details on how to do this on the West Midlands Lieutenancy website: www.wmlieutenancy.org on the Honours & Awards section.
You can read about other people, who have been Honoured this year and access a nomination form.
Alternatively, if you would like to talk about a potential nomination, please contact Dale Guest, the West Midlands Honours Coordinator by emailing him at [email protected] or by calling 0121 222 5039.
Celebrate our city, make your nomination and helps others gain the recognition they deserve.
