In the mood to give your ears a treat this weekend? Well, as Shakespeare once said: “get thee to a live music venue, forsooth” and who are we to argue? Our town has the most amazing variety of musical talent and venues on offer, from back-street pubs to national arenas and everything in between, Birmingham has got it all! Here’s some foot-tapping, crowd-pleasing suggestions to get you thinking about what your own weekend musical ticket could be:
1. The Big Venues
If you have a hankering for hits and huge shows look no further than Olly Murs at the Resorts World Arena on Friday and Saturday evening (10&11/05), or go a bit gooey over those lovely Take That boys at the Arena Birmingham on Sunday and all next week (12-14, 16-19/05)
2. Be inspired
Known for their spellbinding performance at the Royal Wedding, The Kingdom Choir are at the Symphony Hall on Friday (10/05), bringing love, gospel music and power. Or on the same night you could welcome Chinese masters and students of the cello to a Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Shanghai Conservatory of Music side-by-side concert at RBC in Eastside.
3. Music Pubs
Wherever you are in town there’s certain to be somewhere hosting live music just a stone’s throw away, so check out your nearest pub, café or club and see who they have on this weekend! Maybe you fancy a UB40 tribute at The Bulls Head off Broad Street, or Tony Willé at the Old Moseley Arms’ Chaos Acoustic Club in Balsall Heath, both on Sunday (12/05).
4. The 80s Parties
Not really live music of course, but when all you want to do is dance to some banging nightclub classics, we all know nothing beats the 80s for floor-filling quality. So why not get you and your mates down to The Mill in Digbeth for sensational celebrity DJ party nights with Martin Kemp on Friday (10/05) and Sara Cox on Saturday (11/05)?
