It’s just a jump to the left! Rocky Horror has come to town, the original gender-fluid rock n roll musical night out enjoyed by over 30 million theatre-goers worldwide brings its 2019 World Tour to The Alexandra Theatre now until May 25th.
The show stars the amazing Duncan James (yes, him off of Blue and Hollyoaks!) as Frank N Furter alongside Joanne Clifton as Janet, Ben Adams as Brad and Birmingham’s very own Alison Hammond as The Narrator. Brum born and bred Alison tweeted before the show’s opening night on Monday “So Excited for tonight, amazing cast and crew, such Talent and all in my home town #birmingham”!
Richard O’Brien’s timeless masterpiece has become a cultural icon since its original performance in 1973, promoting empowerment of self-creation and all sexual orientations. In the 1970s it was a futuristic vision of sexual revolution, but the story has endured so many cultural and legal changes in our society and just goes on, getting more and more relevant.
Since its first World Tour in 1980, The Rocky Horror Show has been to all corners of the world including Norway, Spain, Argentina, South Korea, Japan and Mexico, and it recently ranked eighth in a BBC Radio 2 Listener Poll “Nation’s Number One Essential Musicals”. It’s the story of two squeaky clean college kids – Brad and Janet – whose car breaks down outside a creepy mansion and… well, get your fishnets on and get down to the Alex to find out what happens!
The show features singalong classics including Sweet Transvestite, Damn It Janet, and of course, the pelvic-thrusting Time Warp! If you want to Touch-a Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me then grab your tickets from The Alex, the best availability is for Monday-Wednesday performances, with shows at 8.30pm and some weekend 5.30pm matinees.
