Western Power Distribution the electricity network operator for the Midlands, South West and Wales has released an app which could help lower the amount of carbon you use.
The app which has been developed in partnership with Carbon Trust uses realtime data to calculate what makes up the locally generated energy that powers the electric items in our homes, and could help you to use energy when it is less carbon intensive.
Locally generated energy can often be made up of solar, wind and biomass. At peak times this is supplemented by more distant sources which may be non-renewable such as coal.
The app allows you view the data for your area by postcode or by selecting the area you live in on the map, alternatively you can also set your location by GPS.
As well as realtime information you can also look back at historic data, the day overall and a 7 day forecast.
The app is available to download for free via Google Play and the Apple App Store.
