The Birmingham Music Awards return on Thursday 16th May 2019 at one of Brum’s newest live music venues, The Mill Digbeth.
The BMAs are the only city-based awards to exclusively celebrate achievement in music. The ceremony will bring together high-profile artists, labels, managers, publishers, producers, music businesses and the media to celebrate the key figures of the Birmingham music scene. It will be an exciting evening of live performances, networking, opportunities, and a chance to recognise some of the talented musicians working in Birmingham today.
Awards will be given in categories including Best Song, Best Band, Best Live Venue, Best Rap/Grime Act, Rising Star, Best Radio Station, Best DJ, Brum Bastion, and Lifetime Achievement.
The awards were set up to help combat the lack of recognition Birmingham gets as a world music city. Despite its rich musical heritage and vibrant venues, the organisers felt the city wasn’t celebrated as much as it should be and its artists weren’t breaking through as much as they should be. The BMAs focus on bringing the music community together, creating opportunities and building the music business infrastructure the city needs to sustain music careers and retain the talent in our city.
The BMAs are supported by ambassadors including Duran Duran’s John Taylor, UB40, Ace from Skunk Anansie and Dapz on the Map, who has recently been signed to Sony.
If you are a musician, music professional or a fan looking for the opportunity to enjoy live music and network, this event is not to be missed. Standing tickets are £25 and VIPs are £85. VIP tickets include complimentary glasses of fizz, a VIP bar, private afterparty and the chance to meet artists, sponsors, patrons, judges, and ambassadors. All ticket holders will receive a free welcome drink on the red carpet.
The BMAs also work to support Digbeth-based charity Changes UK. Changes support those in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction, an issue that is all too common in the music industry. Celebrating their ten-year anniversary in September, Changes provides a detox service, counselling, mentorship, community-based rehabilitation, as well as opportunities to get back into work.
The BMAs will be held on Thursday 16th May 2019 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm and last entry is at 6.45 pm. The event is 14+ and under 25s may be asked to show ID.
