A man, aged 22, has this morning been arrested by British Transport Police detectives in connection with the rape of a girl, aged 14, near Witton Railway Station last month.

A spokesperson from British Transport Police, said: “The man from the Birmingham area was arrested on suspicion of rape and has been taken to police custody to be questioned by detectives.

This arrest is in connection with an incident in which the teenager was raped in a vehicle in the Witton area at around 2am on Wednesday 26th July.

She had previously been raped at the railway station a few hours earlier; a man has been charged and another man arrested in connection with this first incident which is being treated as a separate incident.

The victim is continuing to receive support from specialist officers as the investigation continues.

The media and public are thanked for their overwhelming support in sharing the numerous appeals in relation to this investigation.

Detectives are still appealing for good Samaritan who picked up the victim after she was raped for the second time. The driver of the second vehicle, described as a people carrier type car, is believed to have given the victim a lift home after she was raped a second time.
