Three men jailed for 17 years after a sawn-off shotgun, knives and drugs were recovered by police

Dramatic footage showing armed police arresting three men after they were spotted with a gun has been released by West Midlands Police.

Officers acted on information to combat the handover of the potentially lethal gun in a car park just off Rhoose Croft in Castle Vale on the afternoon of 15 November last year.

The footage shows Darnell Duquesney, Jordan Kibuka and Makenzie Blackburn approaching a parked BMW and speaking to the occupants.

Duquesney then got into the vehicle and took a shortened shotgun, which he then put in his inside the leg of his trousers to try and hide it.

The BMW left and as armed officers arrived on the scene.

Duquesney who was on a pushbike was detained in a nearby street and the gun and cartridges were found behind a wheelie bin in an alleyway they had all ran down.

Kibuka tried to climb over a fence but was arrested with a bag containing Class A drugs.

While Blackburn was found to have a 30cm long combat knife down the front of his trousers and a smaller lock knife after being detained. A subsequent search of his home discovered a stab vest and shotgun cartridge.

Duquesney, aged 19 from Kitts Green was jailed for five years and one month and 19-year-old Kibuka from Castle Vale was jailed for six years and eight months after both pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon.

DC Brett Stephenson, from Force CID, said: “There is no place for illegal weapons or drugs in our communities and the quick response of officers ensured these are off the streets and the men involved put behind bars.”

All were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (16 July).
