Two men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a sawn-off shotgun after a car window was shot through in Northfield.
Armed West Midlands Police officers were deployed to Overbury Road, at 2.30AM this morning (30/12), following a 999 call reporting the sound of a gun shot.
A man, aged 24 was arrested at the scene following a brief foot-chase, while a man, aged 18, was arrested in a nearby tower block.
Both are being held in police custody and will be questioned on suspicion of possessing a firearm; a sawn-off shot-gun was recovered from the foot-well of a damaged car found at the scene.
West Midlands Police Force Incident Manager, Chief Inspector Gareth Mason, said: “We had officers on the scene within a matter of minutes. One man was quickly detailed in the street and our quick-time enquiries led us to a flat in Shelley Tower where a teenager was also arrested.
“I’d like to thank members of the community for their assistance, both in making a swift 999 call that enabled us to get armed police on the scene quickly and helping them with their enquiries. It’s helped us seize an illegal firearm and make two arrests.”
There were no reports of any injuries.
